"Are you threatening me, sister?" Az asked from behind the illusion of love. "What do you mean, Jasmine Longbottom?" Dexter didn't need to look back to his car to know that a light was flashing inside. He probably had a message from Paige telling him to come home or at least go back to his apartment. "Are you instigating that I'd kill this," he paused, as if it pained him to say the next sentence, "charming young woman?"

"Of course not," Jasmine said to her sister, glancing at her, then looking back at Dexter. "Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying. Took the words right out of my mouth, smart boy." She laughed at her own joke, one that the others probably hadn't gotten.

"And she thought I had a bad sense of humor." Dex rolled his eyes and began to click his tounge. His mother had had a bad habit of doing this, and Dexter had gotten the habit from her. Az looked at him funny and he stopped. "What?" he asked. "Jasmine's just being a," Az didn't have to search for the right words, " a witch. That's all, she's just jealous." She reached for him and he scooted away again.

"Only because you do," Jasmine replied. This boy was inching was way to eternal darkness...or hell. Which ever he made it to. "Damn right I am," she told Az, laughing again. This laugh more like the one of a mad killer who had finally caught their prey than the last last she had. "But, not jealous. Ick." Jealous of what was all she could think. Nothing to actually be jealous of. A sushi man and a killer...Great people to be around....

Dexter nearly laughed himself. He recognized that laugh very well. "So, Jasmine, why are you in America? " he raised an eyebrow and winked at the waitress of a very nearby beach bar. She brought him a beer bottle and he looked at it as if it were pure poison. He gave it back to her with a look of obvious distaste and brought out something that had been hanging from his neck. She looked at it with alarm and returned with three cokes. Dexter took one and pointed at the two girls. "I'm paying, you in?" Az took the drink, of course and looked at Jasmine with a look that scram "Please, for my sake, take it."

"You act like I have to have a reason," she said, putting her wand in her back pocket. "I'm here on business, of course. Americans have no sense of fashion, if you haven't noticed." She took the drink since Az had asked her with her begging eyes. She wasn't font of the sugary drink, but took a small sip to make her throat feel better.

Dexter tucked his police badge back inside his shirt (Forgot to mention what the thing was last post) and took another sip of the coke. He began to plot about how, when, where and why he would finally get this 'Azreal'. He had to make sure, of course. But being sure meant watching her for a few weeks, or even a few days if that was enough. "I've noticed." Dexter found it was better to agree with Jasmine than try to impress her with American wit or to contradict her.

"That's a good thing," Jasmine said. "No other Americans have. It's so sad, actually. I almost feel bad for you all. First with being fat, then the hideous accents. And no sense of fashion at all." She shook her head, as if she actually felt pity for the country. They had brought it on themselves. It was only her job to make them look fashionable, not work miracles.

He was about to comment that, in the US, stupid hawaian shirts were very fashionable, but he held his tongue. "And you are the single most fabulously dressed woman ever to set foot in the States," he muttered sarcasticly. Az laughed and made a grab to hug Dexter. "Isn't he so funny?" she asked.

"Funniest person I've ever met," she said just as sarcastic, rolling her eyes. How was this boy still alive, anyhow? He should be long dead. The more important question was, though, why the hell was Az attracted to him? Or why the hell was she acting like she was?...

Dexter could recognize, as always, the look on a person's face and he wanted to laugh at the naivety of Jasmine Longbottom. She obviously thought Az was the bad one, and she was right. Az was the bad one, but not for long. "Thank you for the compliment, Jasmine." Dexter wasn't honest as he said thank you. But, then again, almost everything about him was as phony as the smile he had given Jasmine the first time. "Thank you, Jasie." She said it like Jay-Zee and sounded like a love-struck moron while looking at Dexter.

She was tempted to tell Dexter she could practically read his mind. She wanted him to know the she knew that he knew what she was thinking. But if he was as smart as he seemed, he could figure that out on his own. Jasmine looked up, nodding. She had heard thank you twice, but she didn't know what for. Being polite but oblivious was apparently the best way to go...

"So, what do you two do for a living?" Dexter asked, trying to make perfectly normal conversation. If Az said anythng suspicious, all it would be in a hop, skip and a click away until he could figure out anything 'else' about her. "I've already said what I do," he said, shaking hishead a bit to loosen his hair. "And I know Jasmine's a clothing designer. . . Right?"

"Slash photographer," she said happily. Of course she still didn't get a good vibe off this guy, but she loved talking about professions, even if it was with her murderous sister and a strange sushi man out to murder her sister...Talk about awkward...

Dexter thought about smiling when she used the word 'Slash'. But thought against it. It was one of his least favorite words and a interesting word choice for Jasmine considering that, apparently, she knew what Dex wanted to do to her half/foster/whatever-sister, Azreal. He began to write a letter in his head, but noticed that Az was looking at him with a deep, but very disturbing devotion. He shuddered a bit before smiling falsely for Jasmine's sake. "Photography? I like working with the lighting." That was truth. He was very good at arranging lights for photography and for other purposes. One of those being that he had to photograph crime scenes at times and it was easier to take them properly if you had the right lighting.

"I try not to work with the lighting because you become more prone to diseases, or something," she said happily. She looked at Az then back at Dex. It was like he had total control over her. It was scary. Very, very scary to see her...sister...fall for some idiot Muggle who wanted only for her to be dead.

She shrugged. "They could." She knew she sounded paranoid, which was totally bogus, but she felt that he could know the truth!

"Riiight." He did the same 'right'. "And I'm a serial killer." It was the first time he had said the words to someone other than his brother. According to his psych 101, this meant a reluctance to give into the truth that he was a serial killer. He hunted certain types rather than randomly choosing. So he was, by definition, a serial. Yes, he has a degree in psychology.

Jasmine rolled her eyes. "You just proved my point," she said, a smirk on her face. She knew this person wasn't any Jack the Ripper, but she knew that he wanted Az dead, and that just plain sucked.

He faked (and very well faked) himself doing a doubletake. "So now you think I'm a serial killer." He rolled his eyes and scoffed. "I bet you drink crocodile blood on Fridays? And Azreal probably plans to rule the world. . . "

Jasmine shrugged. "Hey, you really don't know anyone, do you? Not even yourself." She smiled, but hoped the growing darkness would hide the cruel feature now on her face.

Dexter looked as if he had been struck in the face for a moment, but soon cool calm had washed over his face. "Does anyone really know themselves, Jasmine?" His voice went cold for a moment and he scared himself. Something darker had said those words. Azreal kept on staring. "If it helps," she said, " I do want to rule the world." "Of course it helps, Az." Dexter couldn't, wouldn't, bring himself to call her by a pet name. Dexter felt that crazy reluctance again. His dad would've called it regret. Dexter Moser called it sense. He imagined his brother's face again, and his father's. They had all looked a lot alike. They were called the 'Moser Brothers'. There was Harold, the father and the cop. A restrictive man who could look through you to your very core and not even flinch. There was Edward. The sophisticated child who was older than his years. The magical one who had left when Dexter was twelve and Edward was thirteen. And then there was Dexter, the one who, according to his teachers, had 'too much discipline' and was frightening to the other children.

Jasmine watched the two. He was obviously just putting up with her...for now. "No, no one really knows themselves. That's what I just said." She said to Dex.

They were now next to the seawall which had been made to prevent hurricane damage (or to lessen it). It was very dark, and all of a sudden, a man with a gun pounded Dexter into the wall. "Give me your money," The man then grabbed Az with one hand and Jasmine with the other. Big mistake, Dexter got up quickly and came at the man with the knife he had in his back pocket and would've cut the guy open right there had it not been for the fact that he saw the minor love-effect wear off of Az when she saw the knife. (I hope the whole 'grabbing' thing was OK? If not, I'll change it. . . )
