“NO! I won’t, I won’t, I won’t!” Gwen said repetitively to her father glaring at him as he tied the skates onto her feet. “I’m going to fall through the ice and freeze and die!” She said dramatically putting her hand to her forehead and Chris just laughed as he finished with one of the boots. “Gwen, you are not going to fall through the ice and die. If it was that un-safe, people wouldn’t be skating on it now.” He said taking a small glance at the people out on the rink. “But they aren’t ME! I will fall through.” Gwen said trying to prove her point. She was not scared of course, she was NEVER scared…she just did not want to die…at least that is what she kept telling herself. “You will not. I’ll be right there, and honey, you weigh a LOT less then I do…and I haven’t fallen through any time I’ve come here.” Chris assured her as he finished her other boot and then began working on his own. “Just think of it like the first time you went on stage. You were a flower and scared sooo much…but you did wonderfully and since then you have been in every school play. Now, how can you be an actress who faces millions of people on stage, and not be brave enough to trust me when I promise you that you won’t die ice-skating?” Chris asked her and she shrugged, “I’m a complicated woman daddy, and complicated women are very complicated.” She said and Chris rolled his eyes. “Who taught you that? Your Aunt Kat?” He asked and Gwen shook her head, “Nope! Grandma Kathleen!” She said and Chris laughed, “Why am I not surprised. Turning my daughter into the little diva, she never was. Now come on sweetie, be brave. At least try it…for me?” He asked giving her a sad look at which she rolled her eyes, “Fine, but grow up daddy. Stop being a baby.” She said with a smile and Chris just laughed at his daughter, his world. He looked at her and smiled. She was wearing a pair of jeans, with pink and purple butterflies on them, with a pair of white skates. Then she was wearing a snowflake, white long sleeve top underneath a purple jacket that had a pink kitten on the back. Her red hair was down and she had on a pair of pink fuzzy earmuffs as she said she could not let her ears get cold. Chris was wearing a simple pair of jeans, a pair of brown skates, a black sweater underneath a brown leather jacket. Together they walked over to the rink and Gwen grabbed Chris’s hand. “Ready?” He asked and she just nodded as they stepped out onto the ice.

"I'm not going. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not," a male voice said firmly. "Yes, you are. Just step onto the ice and walk," a female voice argued, and suddenly Jake and Emma Tripp became visible as she pushed him onto the rink. Jake flailed his arms in circles, trying to catch his balance. After extending the time on his feet to four seconds, he lost it and fell on his back. Swearing under his breath, he crawled on his frozen hands and now-wet knees back toward the edge of the rink, a few feet away from Chris and Gwen.
Emma had rolled her eyes and done a quick lap around the rink, gracefully doing a jump and 360 degree twirl in the air before landing on one skate and gliding back toward her brother.

“See Gwen…you aren’t the only nine year old out here.” Chris said with a chuckle and a smirk and Gwen giggled as she was slowly getting the hang of this skating thing…it was just like rollerblading…if only her father had told her that she would not have been as scared. “But daddy…he’s worse then me.” She said skating over to him and stopping, “Oh look! It’s Becca’s, Kira’s, John’s, and Noah’s Uncle Jake!” She said getting a good look at him. Chris also skated over, “Oh, hey Jake.” He said and then he noticed Emma, “Emma.” He added with a slight nod of his head, “Never been on the ice before?” He asked extending a gloved hand to help Jake up.

Jake grumbled something and looked down, trying to figure out how to get up. After a few seconds of struggling, he finally saw Chris' hand and took it, pulling himself up slowly. "Nope, and this is the last time," he said. Emma laughed, skating over. "You're such a chicken, Jake. It's just like flying, only you balance on your feet and walk," she said. "Yeah, this coming from the girl who isn't exactly the best Quidditch player ever..." Jake muttered. "Plus, if you fall in Quidditch, there's not a hard ice rink to smack into," he added. Emma rolled her eyes. "You're right, just the GROUND..." She said.
After a mumbled swear from Jake, Emma skated behind him. "What are you doing?..." He asked nervously. "Just stand up and stay still," she commanded. "Em, I don't like ice skat-hey!" He was cut off as Emma pushed him hard toward the other side of the rink. Jake flew across, looking drunk as he stumbled to keep his balance. He came to a stop near the middle to see Emma laughing from the sidelines. "Oh, funny. Now bring me back there," Jake said. "Nope, you go ahead," Emma smirked.
Jake did not look happy. "Emma, you are so dead when I get over there!" He yelled. "Yeah? Prove it," Emma said calmly. Jake didn't move, until suddenly a man came flying toward him on skates yelling, "WATCH OUT I CAN'T STOP!" That got him moving. Jake kicked off one skate and glided toward Emma as if he were running. He reached her within a few seconds. "I'm never going ice skating again, I simply can't do it," he told Emma, who began laughing again. "Then how'd you get from there to here?" She asked. Jake looked down, and then back at the middle. "Erm...I have no clue..." He murmured.

Gwen giggled at Jake’s antics, “He’s worse then Becca the first time you put her on a broom…and she was 4.” Gwen said with another giggle while talking to Chris who shrugged, “Some people just freak out when the get on the ice…” He said pointedly looking at her. Gwen blushed and hung her head, “Who would do a silly thing like that?” She asked skating away from Chris who laughed, “I don’t know…you tell me.” He said and Gwen giggled and skated around. She did a few simple jumps and skated over to Jake, “It’s just like rollerblading…or flying…once you learn you’ll never forget. It’s easy!” She insisted. “Come on! I’ll skate with you.” She said looking up at him and extending her hand. Gwen was a very kind little girl, and was always helping people. She was the kind of girl who would help a hundred year old carry their grocery’s across the road, even if they were twice her size.

Jake gave Chris a look which seemed to apologize in advance for if he fell and took Gwen down too, but then accepted her hand cautiously, having to squat just a little. "OK...I moved, I'm done," he said after half a step in one direction. He was not amused by Emma skating on the other side of him backwards. "Is the ickle Quidditch player afraid of ice skating?" she asked, smirking.

“Come on you big baby.” Gwen said with a sigh as she skated slowly and pulled Jake with her. “It’s just like walking…except you don’t lift your feet…you slide them back and forth.” Gwen explained giving a small demonstration slowly so he could see. “Once you get that, everything else is easy! You can learn to skate backwards and jump and all that other kind of stuff…trust me…it hurts a lot more to fall in rollerblading…in ice-skating the ice is right hear…with rollerblading the pavement is there and you have to go home for ice!” Gwen said nodding and Chris just laughed at his little teacher.

"Wow, that's reassuring..." Jake mumbled. But he took a few steps. By then he had let go of her hand and taken a few more, slowly drifting forward. "OK...I guess it's kind of like roller blading..." He said. He lost his balance and flailed his arms, but still fell over backward, landing hard on his back. "That's COLD!" He said, although he didn't seem able to get up.

“No dumb-shit…ice is going to be hot!” Gwen said shaking her head. Yes, she had a very colorful vocabulary for a nine-year-old but she had many influences. “Really…and you call yourself a Hogwarts Graduate!” She added skating off and doing a jump and spin and then skating to her father. “He’s dumber then that guy Andrew that the Potter’s Uncle James works with…and he’s an idiot!”

Jake was not happy. He stood up, swearing under his breath. Emma skated over, no longer smiling. "OK...when did nine year olds get such colorful language?" she mumbled. Jake sent her a humorless glare and skated walked on skates over to the side, where he sat down, staring at his feet. Emma skated over, sighing. She sat next to him.
//Ish tired, so this is probably really bad. lol//

Chris laughed, “When she spends all her time with my mother, myself and my three best friends are Kat, Lily and James…” Chris said skating over and watching Gwen as she skated around muttering things under her breath. They were the lines for her latest play and she was checking to make sure that she remembered them. “This nine year old is a bit different then most you know and the fact that her best friends are the Potter quads…I mean really…you are the Potter’s Uncle Jake…you I think would be the least surprised out of everyone.” Chris said.

"Well, they don't swear TOO much..." Jake rolled his eyes. "And never to my face..." he added defensively. He watched Gwen for a second. Emma gave him a sharp poke in the arm and said, "Never mind, we can go home. I don't want you to get hurt, or Lily might come after me. I just figured you could ice skate, but I guess you can't..." she trailed off. Jake rolled his eyes. "Reverse psychology doesn't work, Em," he said simply. "But, I bet I could beat you in a race from one end to the other." "Yeah right, Jake. I don't wanna humiliate you..." Emma smirked.

“Yes….yes they do. If they start fighting, they have more colorful language then most people I know. Of course…not around their parents…but I’ve heard them fighting in Gwen’s room a couple times…and they have the mouths of sailors.” Chris said as Gwen skated by muttering something about a talking frog and how that was preposterous. “And really? I’d love to see a race between you two. Winner races Gwen.” Chris said with a smirk. He was an ok skater personally, but he just liked to do it for fun.

Jake and Emma stood up and skated toward the middle of one end. Well, Emma skated, Jake kind of walked while digging into the ice. The way seemed to clear for them as people moved out of their path. Jake finally reached where Emma was. She was laughing. Jake smirked. "Wanna make this more interesting?" He asked. "Oh, Jake, don't make this even more embarrassing than it has to be..." Emma laughed. "Come on...you're not scared are you?" He asked. Emma shook her head. "Fine, what do you want to do?" Jake thought for a second. "Whoever doesn't win has to put a handful of snow in the back of their jacket," he said finally. Emma nodded. "OK, but I hope you know some good heating spells...and by the way, no use of magic or elementalism." Jake nodded.
They got ready, Emma in a real stance, Jake just trying not to fall. "3...2...1...GO!" Emma said. Suddenly Jake took off, tearing up the ice, leaving Emma behind him. Startled, Emma quickly followed, having started slow, not expecting any competition. As they crossed the halfway mark, Jake was about five feet in front of Emma. At three quarters, he was three feet in front of her. By the end, she was right next to him. They both finished at the same time. "I let you catch up," Jake smirked. "Sure ya did..." Emma rolled her eyes. "And what happened to, 'I can't skate,'?" She added. Jake shrugged. "It's just like roller blading..."
//Have Gwen or Chris tell them that neither won, so they both have to put the snow down their back. lol//

“No Emma, you just got tricked.” Chris said with a smirk and Gwen skated over looking very pissed off. “YOU LIED!” She said simply to the fact that Jake really could skate and had pretended he could not. “I could have been squishified!” She added crossing her arms and blowing a raspberry at Jake before skating off. Chris laughed but then looked at both of them. “So…it was a tie…and neither of you won…the ice banks over there.” He said with a smirk.

Jake stuck his tongue out at Gwen playfully. Him and Emma skated over to Chris to hear his comment. "What?" Both asked at the same time. Then Emma smiled. "Well, since we tied, I guess neither of us won, and we both have to get the snow," she said with a smirk. Jake didn't look thrilled at the idea. "Why are you so happy about it?" he asked suspiciously. "Because I don't mind being a little cold...you, on the other hand, are gonna feel like you're in an iceberg!" she laughed and pulled Jake over to the snowbank, where she grabbed some ice in her glove and put it down the back of her jacket, still smiling. Jake followed her lead hesitantly, and his eyes widened in shock the second he felt the snow soak through the back of his shirt. Emma skated back to Chris, laughing.
